Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) | photos TBD
Costume Information
Materials + Prep
I had tried to make Frieren exactly a year ago, and after being unhappy with how it turned out, I scrapped the sewing portion. A year later, I decided to challenge myself to make Frieren in less than a week, as a surprise cosplay for my Cosplay Senpai role at Anime Expo 2025.
The focus of this build was execution and speed, although I still tossed in small details. This would also serve as another ‘working’ cosplay to wear for my guesting and teaching, as my Aerith cosplay no longer fit due to my surgery. I wanted a more “rustic”, textural feel, with a touch of shine for her wizardry.
Accessories
The belt pictured is a premade one that’s been weathered, but will be replaced with a custom leather tooled one and buckle at a later time.
The earrings were cast in the same method as the rest of the gems and are wired to be real earrings.
Dress
The dress was altered from the pattern, including general shortening everywhere, petite shoulder adjustments, and taking in the waist for my curvier figure.
It features understitching and topstitching throughout, fully lined in muslin, with wigan for hem reinforcement and small shoulder pads in the capelet to balance my hips and the petticoat.
Other details include metallic embroidery thread topstitching as well as custom cast resin gems that include a bit of blue sparkle to signify Himmel. The front black velvet panels are edged in soutache and feature gold foiling along the front as well.

The staff features a screw and bolt in the center to collapse it for travel; the wood has been stained. The head and detailing were finished with gilding wax on top of a bronze spraypaint base and finished with blackwashing and hand painted highlights.
The ribbon features a custom cast gem in the same method as the rest of the jewelry, and the ribbon itself is a red-blue silk taffeta that’s been weathered at the edges with sandpaper and paint.
