Build Details

  • The Goal & Materials

Heather was a “quick” build (within a month) worked alongside Aerith, in order to be finished for PAX 2022. I was coming off of multiple difficult projects and decided to do an easy, heavily weathered one that was functional for such a high-activity con.

The costume was utilized entirely from stashbusted or “on sale” materials: nylon for the vest, stretch jersey for the turtleneck, corduroy for the skirt, an actual PVC pipe for the “pipe”, and ribbing for the accessories. The boots are secondhand and weathered.

The wig was an Arda Magnum in Champagne commissioned from Sola-Heika (IG/Twitter), who added a low light effect with copics and cut layers into it.

  • Garments & Accessories

The turtleneck utilized the Trudy (Wardrobe by Me) pattern, cropped; the entire thing was serged and left unweathered so I could walk around in public without the vest without someone calling the cops.

The vest used the Tsuki (Waffle Patterns) pattern, with altered sizing for the pockets and removal of some elements. It’s weathered with acrylics primarily applied with a sponge and old brushes, and finished with a liner and separating zipper.

The skirt uses the Anzu (Waffle Patterns) pattern, with elements simplified. Also fully lined and weathered with acrylics. I chose this A line shape rather than the in-game pencil shape for ease of movement and my hips making pencil skirts uncomfortable.

The pipe is a literal PVC pipe finished with spray paint, acrylics, rub n’ buff, and a sand mixture for the “rust”.

  • Other, Logitics & Build Guide

Orange “ribbing” was sewn to the boots for permanent accessorizing; matching wristbands were serged and weathered from the same material. The flashlight is a cheap military replica, and the watch is a cheap Casio knock off, both weathered.

On the vest, one chest pocket actually has a velcro to stick it to “itself” for the flashlight and to hide the interior pocket. The two waist pockets are functional. For the skirt, it features two large functional pockets, and the back features an adjustable loop to tighten at the waist for my proportions, as well as accomodate my fitness journey at the time. The pipe can also break down into “halves” for packing.

Due to the simplicity and speed of the project, there is no dedicated build thread, so the build log here is a summary.
