Costume Information

Materials + Prep

Yuri was a bit of a “reset” after my surgery in the spring, with an explicit goal of adding more costumes to my library that I could wear after selling a large chunk or many of them not fitting post-surgery. There was less of a focus on super clean work in leiu of doing things a bit quicker, and the photos here are of a V1 version, minus some clean-ups and additional props that will be added to the V2 version.

Accessories

The body chain is a resin kit (mix of hard resin and softer squishy flexible resin). Cast in black, I ended up using a mix of graphite powder and acrylic gel medium with a rub n buff dry brush to mimic the ‘gunmetal’ type finish used in the game.

The officer sword is Krylon metallic spraypaint on all pieces, with oil paint accents. V2 will have a quick frog added in matching leather to the sheath, while V1 uses white twill tape to tie it to my belt.

The wig is a Coscraft base, styled by momoe3.

Coat

The coat is a pattern from Indigo Patterns, with adjustments made for my more petite build, including swayback adjustments, additional pleats at the back to accommodate my pear shape, and a slightly more circular shape to the skirt to accommodate my hips in a more flattering way. The chest features a padstitched batting and canvas layer along the chest, with collar canvas in the standing collar to provide a good support base for the hardware, which velcro’s on. Additionally, it’s completely lined in bemberg lining and features 1” shoulder pads. I plan to add curtain magnets to the hem to weight it down somewhat, as the trim makes it a bit stiff for my liking, as well as add wigan to the cuffs to stiffen them. The entire thing closes with a front zipper all the way to the collar.

The ‘chest armor’ is Pelion flex foam wrapped in silk with a faux-chainmail mesh and metallic pleather (ow) bias tape for the edging. Snap tape will be added in the future to keep the armor in place.

The cape is a white silk velvet with silk habotai lining and silk dupioni trim. It attaches to the armor with snaps, and the length was shortened for my shorter height.

Materials List

fabrics | wool twill (coat), cotton sateen-esque mystery fabric (pants), silk dupioni (coat accents), trims sourced from Daytona Trims in NYC, buttons from Bias Bespoke in NYC

paints | Golden metallics uses for all chain hardware and swords, while plain Plaid acrylics were used for the bone-style gauntlet

misc |chest chain + accessory resin kit from Dangerous Ladies, officer sword + gauntlet model from Dangerous Ladies, coat pattern from Indigo Patterns, pants pattern from Cashmerette

Gauntlet

The gauntlet is a 3D model that’s been sanded, primed, and painted, on a felt base along the wrist and thumb with decorative chains. The paint job is a stone spraypaint on a matte base, with layers of gel medium added and then Plaid acrylics. The gem is resin-printed and drybrushed.

The rings are removable but permanently attached with chains to the palm base. For one wear, this rigging worked well, but we plan to re-tool the chains so they don’t scrape the skin.
