Costume Information

Materials + Prep

I wanted a simple, quick costume for summer Texas conventions, and I wanted to play a bit more with new dyeing techniques I had yet to do, as well as tackle the challenge of having a bare chest as someone with an AFAB chest.

I utilized primarily linens for this costume, from the white to green tunic, as well as a breathable cotton jersey for the arm.

Tunic

White Tunic | Sewn as is using IndigoJinjo’s pattern, with some alterations: an additional gathered side panel to accommodate a bigger AFAB hip shape, and an altered front neckline to provide a bit more coverage. The entire thing features a bag lined muslin interior for durability. It was weathered with tea by spray bottle, Mehron FX powders, and Dirty Down sprays (sponsored by Goblin Hut).

Green Tunic | The green tunic was split into two pieces of linen due to this being a scrap fabric find. The entire thing is covered in 3 types of felting: wet felting, nuno felting, and cobweb felting, all made with a mixture of wool roving and merino.

Arm + Tattoos

Arm | The base arm fabric was a white cotton jersey that was ice dyed in a gradient pattern using three different fiber reactive dyes. The actual armor pieces are a Dangerous Ladies kit, applied with silicone glue, while the rings (to be added) will be molded and cold cast by myself to match the kit.

Tattoos | The ‘tattoos’ are actually self-drafted on my dressform and created with scuba spacer heat n bonded to a textured stretch. A power mesh one-sleeved top was sewn, with the tattoos sewn on top of that to create a re-usable tattoo top.

Accessories

Belts | The chest belt is just braid trim that’s been weathered, while the waist belt features two strands I beaded on wire to flex. The waist belt additionally has the trim sewn onto nylon webbing with machine stitching on the edges for extra strength to support the pouches.

Pouches | The pouches, which are in progress, are sewn using a premade pattern out of real leather and suede; they’ll slide onto my belt.

Props

Sword | The sword was 3D printed and sanded up to 400 grit. The base paints are airbrushed Createx, using blue and violet opaque and pearl for the handle, and then Quicksilver and blue-silver for the blade. The weathering is done with Liquitex acrylics and Dirty Down rust liquid by hand. The gold parts are also hand painted with Golden irisdescent gold fine paint.
